FILMMAKING I

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Filmmaking I is a hands-on introduction to key photographic concepts and the core concepts of self-expression with moving images. Students shoot digital video to learn the basic principles and techniques of light, composition, camerawork, editing and storytelling. Students will complete short individual assignments (in class), and work on a small group film project (in & out of class). There is a field-trip to a film festival (we will not have regular class that week).
STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Explain key terms and concepts in film studies
Develop a critical eye for appreciating film as an art form
Become proficient with capturing and manipulating digital image, sound, & video
Discuss and demonstrate the art & technique of visual storytelling & video production at the introductory level for all phases of production
Write, direct, and edit short films as part of a group
